Spaziale: Biennale di ArchitetturaCatania
La Casa Tappeto was conceived as part of the 'Spaziale. Everyone belongs to everyone else' project for Biennale di Architettura 2023.
When spread out, it serves as a communal picnic blanket. When folded upon itself, it transforms into a play tent or an open-air cinema. When suspended from a building or unfurled on a slope, it becomes a grand flag.
This architectural marvel is deeply ingrained in the heart of Librino as a Stage, a profound journey within Librino district. The project promises to be a transformative experience, testing and integrating the built artifact within the social context through unconventional pathways to explore the neighborhood, reaching its peak in various site-specific installations, performances, workshops and panels with local community associations.
The culmination of these efforts took place on September 24th in Librino, and the grand finale featured a live performance by Fennesz at Zō Centro Culture Contemporanee, Catania.

Territori: Santa Maria La ScalaSanta Maria La Scala
The Feste Religiose in Sicilia project consists on the production and curatorship of a series of artistic performances in three Sicilian villages (Alcara Li Fusi, Palazzolo Acreide and Santa Maria La Scala). This choice represents a way of combining a thousand-year-old tradition with innovative cultural practices in companionship with the long-term intention of contributing to the enhancement of the island's historical heritage in a contemporary key. Alongside Matilde Cassani, the pioneer fil rouge of all the Feste Religiose series, in Santa Maria La Scala on the 25th of August, are Mai Mai Mai and Maria Violenza (musical performance).
Mai Mai Mai is an Audio/Video project, known for his incredible blend of Southern Italian Folklore, industrial drone, proto-techno & punishing miasmic electronic music, considered a kind of 'Mediterranean Hauntology'.
Originally from Palermo (Mecca of the Sicilian Inquisition) Maria Violenza embodies the revenge of heretics. She translates suffering into punk and synthetic melodies, a subway journey in the opposite direction from Medina to Mecca. Her music nails you to the wall, while neuroses are accentuated, and the fatal acceleration of beats takes you into the underworld. Maria Violenza is modern exorcism with a rhythm box, a synth, a looper and Arabic folk riffs as tools.
For the third event of Feste Religiose, Mai Mai Mai joins Maria Violenza for a special project during the fishermen's festival of Santa Maria La Scala: a boat concert focused on traditional fishermen's music, chants of the "Tonnare" and sea-themed popular songs, passing from the use of ancient archival recordings up to reinterpreting traditional songs with the voice of Maria Violenza. The concert will take place and sail on a traditional boat during the celebration of the festivity

Territori: Palazzolo AcreidePalazzolo Acreide
The Feste Religiose in Sicilia project consists of the production and curatorship of a series of artistic performances in three Sicilian villages (Alcara Li Fusi, Palazzolo Acreide and Santa Maria La Scala). This choice represents a way of combining a thousand-year-old tradition with innovative cultural practices in companionship with the long-term intention of contributing to the enhancement of the island's historical heritage in a contemporary key. Alongside Matilde Cassani, the pioneer fil rouge of all the Feste Religiose series, the artists involved on the debut on the occasion of the celebration of San Sebastiano, in Palazzolo Acreide on the 11th of August, is Sarah Davachi.
Matilde Cassani moves on the border between architecture, installation and event design. Her practice deals with the spatial implications of cultural pluralism in the contemporary Western city. Her works have been showcased in many cultural institutions, art galleries and were published in several magazines such as Architectural Review, Domus, Abitare, Flash art, Arkitecktur, Arqa.
Sarah Davachi is a composer and performer whose work is concerned with the close intricacies of timbral and temporal space, utilizing extended durations and considered harmonic structures that emphasize gradual variations in texture, overtone complexity, psychoacoustic phenomena, and tuning and intonation. Her compositions span solo, chamber ensemble, and acousmatic formats, incorporating a wide range of acoustic and electronic instrumentation. Similarly informed by minimalist and longform tenets, early music concepts of form, affect, and intervallic harmony, as well as experimental production practices of the studio environment, in her sound is an intimate and patient experience that lessens perceptions of the familiar and the distant.

The island’s renovation and the Tropicalization of the MediterraneanOrtigia, Siracusa
The cultural evolution of the island of Ortigia in Italy - A cultural project by Ortigia Sound System in partnerhip with Lampoon.
In recent years Ortigia has gained notoriety also thanks to Ortigia Sound System, an electronic music festival which mixes the rhythms of the Mediterranean tradition with contemporary international influences.
Francesco Sorrentino's choice fell on La Graziella, one of the last neighborhoods inhabited only by Ortigia people, whose families have lived there for generations. Entering the maze of narrow streets, it is possible to discover the old Ortigia, which once belonged to ordinary people: fishermen, traders and small artisans, homes of humble and hardworking people.
Every year, on the occasion of the festival, the island comes alive with artistic performances, Du sets and events scattered throughout the city and - after a two-year stop - also the sea, with a busy boat party program.

Flag Planting in Nationless WatersOrtigia, Siracusa
In international waters, ship flags of pirates are raised when approaching a target to give it an opportunity to surrender. peirates, in Greek, literally means «anyone who attempts».
It is in that spirit that we invite artists to raise their flags to express what they are attempting to achieve beyond establishments, beyond power structures, beyond state limits, beyond doxa and above international nationless water.
Flag Planting in Nationless Waters is a project by AAU ANASTAS, powered by K-WAY Official. Co-curated with Kadmonia.

Territori: Alcara Li FusiAlcara Li Fusi
The Feste Religiose in Sicilia project consists of the production and curatorship of a series of artistic performances in three Sicilian villages (Alcara Li Fusi, Palazzolo Acreide and Santa Maria La Scala). This choice represents a way of combining a thousand-year-old tradition with innovative cultural practices in companionship with the long-term intention of contributing to the enhancement of the island's historical heritage in a contemporary key. Alongside Matilde Cassani, the pioneer fil rouge of all the Feste Religiose series, the artists involved on the debut on the occasion of La Festa del Muzzini, in Alcara Li Fusi on the 24th of June, are Luca Trevisani (installation) and Lero Lero (musical performance).
Luca Trevisani research ranges between sculpture and video, and crosses borderline disciplines such as performing arts, graphics, design, experimental cinema and architecture, in a perpetual magnetic and mutant condition.
The Lero Lero collective pays homage to the Alcarean polyvocal tradition of the sound documents collected up to the end of the 20th centur: singing stripped of any harmonic instrumental support, except that of the voices themselves in their polyvocal joints, according to patterns and solutions handed down orally for generations, up to about 30 years ago.

KUBO StageOrtigia, Siracusa
KUBO
A synthesis of antitheses. Temporality, monumentality, simplicity and exuberance.
In the Syracusan countryside, in deliberate contrast with the venue, yet in conversation with the sound system, an apparently monolithic and massive cube will arise. Lightweight. A standardized steel structure. Economical, quick to assemble and convenient to store, the DJ booth will consist of a kinetic black box constantly evolving throughput the event.
A cage of light, completely covered in a reflective, black cloth during the night hours, will progressively unveil the stage from sunrise onwards.
Designed by Fosbury Architecture and supported by The Organics by Red Bull.

Artist Residency: L'Ora BluOrtigia, Siracusa
In 2021 Ortigia Sound System launched its first music residency programme. The residency offered artists the opportunity to explore new practices at the intersection of music, spaces, nature, hyper-local traditions and technologies.
L'Ora Blu was the first artist in residence in Ortigia. The project comes from Ortigia Sound System's purpose to give voice to a new Mediterranean without a trace on nostalgia and strongly committed to Contemporaneity.
The festival encouraged the encounter of three Italian artists who had known and followed each other for some time, but had never played together: the saxophonist Gianni Gebbia (Lee Ranaldo, Fred Firth) and the producers Giampaolo Scapigliati (Red Bull Music Academy, Hivern Discs) and Donato Di Trapani (Paolo Nutini, Indigo Studios).
To recall the enigmatic nature of the Mediterranean, the location chosen for the residency couldn't be but a mysterious, magical, semi-abandoned venue. Somewhere so distant, yet so close to everyone's reality. A stone's throw from the crystalline sea of the island of Ortigia: the small church of Jesus and Mary.
At the heart of our mission are projects that embody our core values and overarching vision. From innovative initiatives to thought-provoking endeavors, each project reflects our commitment to shaping a culturally enriched society. We collaborate with esteemed cultural organizations across the Italian territory, united by shared values and a collective vision.Together, we amplify the impact of our projects and contribute to the rich tapestry of Italy's cultural landscape.
